Looking to buy a bass around this price range.
Anyone got any experience of these latest models?

I don't have experience with the VM models in particular, but I would look for a used Classic Vibe in that price range if it was me. I have played a couple and found them to be pretty outstanding for the price (much like the CV guitars).

I just bought a used VM fretless j last night. I was surprised by the build quality. For a cheap bass the fit and finish are excellent. Doesn't feel like a "toy" for lack of a better word. The electronics on the other hand are junk.
I mean it sounds like a j bass but it sounds weak and thin compared to my am. deluxe/am. std/avri stuff.

I have a fretted VM jazz, from 4 or 5 years ago. I put in some Duncan jazz pickups and it is a wonderful bass. I went shopping all over the Detroit area with a 2K budget and I came home with this after trying out dozens of basses. It was the best bass around that day.

I have that same bass. I think it's killer, even with the stock guts.

Also look at the G&L Tribute line. Jazz bass (JB2) is great. Love mine.

The CV and VM Jazz basses are great bangs-for-the-buck. Just try to check them out before buying, the VMs with the maple bodies can get really heavy.

+1. I had a Squier VM Jazz bass. I Liked it, but recently purchased a JB2. IMO, it is miles better in playability, stability, and tone. Definitely look into those!
