Staggered Pickups - pole piece heights

Hi,

Just been playing the Strats and I noticed that the staggered poles on my Black Strat (DiMarzio) are different in height compared to the ones on my CP50's. It's most noticeable on the middle and neck - both are Area (61 M and 58 N).

The CP50's has the middle poles two raised where the DiMarzio have the A & D string poles raised.

Why is this? I thought they were both modelled on vintage pickups and so would be the same. They are definately fitted correctly and sound awesome - just wondering why they would differ from 'normal' vintage staggers...

They're compensated for a plain G string, whereas the vintage stagger assumed a wound G.
