So I blew my budget and gambled on a Star Gainstar 15 as it has EL84’s.

Anyone have the original manual or copy for these amps? Is the effects loop only on the gain channel? So could I shove some Kingsley preamp pedals into the return and be able to “channel switch” between the Gainstar’s clean channel and then the “Kingsley’ed Gain Channel”?

Congrats on the score! I've got a Gainstar 30. Absolutely awesome amp. Not sure on the loop as I've never used it. Give it a shot and see if it works.

Had the celestial 30 (sc-30), Sirius 30, and nova. To say I was a dumbass for selling them all would be putting it lightly...

I had a Sirius Reverb (which is the Gainstar 30 with reverb). They are amazing amps and that amp had an amazing clean tone. Other than that I don’t remember anything about the effects loop as I never used it.

Great job buddy! I came so darn close to buying that amp a week ago. I already have a Hot Cat do why I didn’t. It’s supposed to be a more refined version. Please post a review or some clips if you get the chance.

Yes, the effects loop is just for the gain channel, and you can use it as you described.

Didn't you have a Blues Star at some point? Or maybe still do? An amp I've always been interested in.

I can speak to this as I own both a Hot Cat 30R (2003 or 04 - can't remember) and a Gainstar 30. They indeed share a lot of heritage/DNA. To my ears, the Hot Cat is a bit more open sounding, raw, less compressed. The Gainstar is indeed a refined version. A bit smoother (but, can still be open and raw). A touch more compression. Different feel. Cleans are a little different to my ears as well. For me, there's room for both in the stable.

Yep. I had a Blues Star for a while, but I eventually sold it. I can't remember why. I now have a Sirius and a Delux...I guess I wanted reverb.
