I watched a Toto vid last night and didn't realize what a good guitar player he is. He's got great chops and I really admire the musicality of his playing.

As long as he's not coked-up he can have some pretty tasty moments.

Toto was a hell of a band. The drummer also was one of the most respected/requested in the business.

What a great, positive, enlightening first post. Ahh the sensitive musician in all of us thanks you so much for your wonderful contribution to TGP.

    Sarcasm totally intended.

Yeah I'm a big lukather fan. Have all his solo albums. He's an incredibly emotive guitar player (one of my favourite solos is the one he's played on 'while my guitar gently weeps' on the live in amsterdam toto reunion show). He's also a kickass vocalist~

Steve has been off the blow for a while now and I believe is sober as well (or at least cut way back from what I hear) and yes, he rips and can play most any style of music. I own quite a few Lukather dvd's and Toto dvd's and have watched him since the first Toto album.

He usually played pretty tasty while he was coked up as well...:p

The live album he did with Larry Carlton in Japan was really cool. Did he overplay and did his tone get a little washed-out? Yes. But they worked really well together, kind of the mentor meets the protege. Luke has guitar licks all day long.

Wish I had some of his Valley Arts and Tylers from the 80's/90's!

I'm I the only one who sees the irony in Flyin' Brian's screen name and his sensitivity to coke jokes?

    Yup, he's a badass.
I don't like everything he's done, but he can sure play.
I understand he'll be on the next G3 tour - watch out Vai and Satch!

Steve Lukather is one of THE elite group of guitar players on earth.

He's done a great collaboration with Lee Ritenour on Six String Theory.

Listen to Luke's comment at 1:45. Should put the whole "Tone is in the Fingers" argument to rest...

    But....somehow I doubt it.

Yea he's right on. Look at a lot of famous players and I bet often you'd be hard pressed to tell what gear they're on, or if they've deviated from their normally associated gear.

For years I thought the Gilmour's solo on Another Brick in the Wall Part II was the coolest strat neck tone.......Then I learned it was a Les Paul [IMG]
