So he runs his signal through the Fractal for fx only, but has a latency issue with the modeling engaged? Not to mention the fact that he's spent the majority of his career running his signal through a 6' rack of digital effects.

Add to that the fact that there's nearly 1ms delay for every foot of distance you put between yourself and the sound source, and this all sounds kind of dubious.

I know Vai's a legend, and I mostly respect his opinion, but IMHO this is user error and/or bias.

Yea i would think that the internal amps used with the fractal effects would have like zeo latency? Doesnt the gt1000 have like 0 latency? but like vai said its all about what feels and sounds best to you so maybe he soeant care for the amp modeling in the fractal.

Every time he moves a foot, he changes the latency by a crucial millisecond. Doesn’t it just ruin the performance?

To be fair, when running the AXE in a parallel loop only the signal passing though it's effects converters would experience any latency. However, the idea that a guy who at one point played with David Lee Roth and Whitesnake on huge arena stages can't deal with a fraction of a second of latency is absolutely laughable.

But my question is why posts like this keep popping up in this forum? Whats the point? Most of us here are way past needing to validate our choices using the opinions of pros who have vastly different budget concerns with roadies to load stuff in and out and companies paying them to play specific products.

    "I don't like latency. I can feel 1ms"

    No you can't.

In my book, Vai has earned the right to say whatever he wants :)

Doesn’t mean I’ll be agreeing with him on everything or making any changes to my rig.

I also use gear I like and don’t use gear I don’t like :dunno

I agree with him. I’m not sure about the latency claims, but after owning and using my Kemper for 5 years I have to say it’s just “not there” yet.

I think there is a place for it. I use it to record play at home, but gigs are another story.

I fully identify with his complaint about getting it sounding great at home and then having that disappear at the gig.

Digital amps will get there and the Kemper is really close. Still....no cigar.
