The info is finally out. Orders are being taken. I can't wait to get mine. I'll probably do a vid when it shows up!

BTW, I'm not affiliated with SUF. I just use/buy a LOT of Matt's pedals.

    Hey all,
I have received a lot of e-mails asking what the PI is and here is the information on it (sorry it's so long):

The PI is the answer to e-mails asking what's the best muff for that 90s alternative sound.
The big, open sounding, gritty, grindy, fuzzy sustain like Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, etc.
What I have been doing is looking into all the late 70s Ram's Head and early 80s Black and Red muffs (these are not like the new NY black & red muffs).
I noticed that these were all very similar. In fact, I found an 80s Black and Red to be the same as the Ram's Head J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. uses. I think this is a very rare moment in Electro-Harmonix history where there was some sort of consistency in making the muffs.
I decided to go through all the versions and come up with one version I felt had the best of all of them.
    The result is the PI.
One thing I really wanted to do on these muffs is keep that huge open grind but give back some low end that can sometimes get lost. The PI has a bit more low end added back in to give the tone a nicer feel especially in the lower notes. The Chords have that classic wall of gritty fuzz and the leads have a certain full, smooth grind to them.
I have ten available that can ship by the end of the week.
If you are interested please let me know.
    They are $160 + shipping.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Yep, in my recent Stomp Under Foot muff buying frenzy, I've been very impressed by the Rams Heads I've played. I'm looking forward to the Pi as well.

I'm excited. I totally expected "the pi" to be something classic from the 70's.

Does he make one that sounds like the cheap plastic jack black and yellow ones from the late 90's? If you replaced the jacks and could get any reliability, I actually liked that sound.

Nice that I can play touch me I'm sick, with some authenticity now :)

very reasonable price for all that effort it seems, impressive.

I love all those bands but not looking for that sound, which one of his would be best for Gilmour style stuff? I'm currently using an MJM Foxy which I believe is a triangle knob clone.

That's one of the only models he doesn't make. He would probably recommend the Civil War or Red Menace to approximate that sound. The only problem is, it would sound TOO good.:rotflmao

    Late 60's/Early 70's = Hellephant

    mid-late 70's Gilmour = Ram's Head

Division Bell/ Pulse = Civil War

Current? = I think Gilmour is using an old Triangle, so Tri Muff.

I like it. I wonder how different it will be from the 76 rams's head?

The SUF Ram's Head has one of the best lead tones ever. Seriously.

So, how is this different from the Pumpkin Pi? Just askin' - when I think of 90's fuzz, I immediately think Corgan/SP/siamese dream.

This has four transistors and no IC.:huh

    I think.

    My hunch is that it's a ram's Head with a Tweaked eq/tonestack.

FWIW, I don't like IC Muffs. They sound like Chainsaws to me.

I got mine. This pedal is INTERESTING! Very different from the other SUF Muffs. It seems to have a very lean low end, and a very open upper mid range grind. It has the big midrange of the Red Menace, but with a sharper attack, and a distortioney feel. I like it a LOT. It has plenty of mojo, and it sounds very expressive. It's a nice departure from the normal Muff sound. I don't just like it, I LOVE it. I will get a video up ASAP. Possibly tonight.
