Much more in the psychedelic side. I play in an instrumental psychedelic indie rock jam band called Okay Cult.

This is amazing!

I take it this never leaves the room?
There's no actual "board" so I just take whatever I need that day to the studio / gig. I also rent stuff out to a local studio.

Up until a couple of years ago, my actual board was always quite small / practical. But I've been hunting gear for 20 years, so I finally decided to wire up this crazy chain using a ton of true bypass switchers. My plan is to use it to make some cool shootout videos.

How does the UA Astra compare to the vintage MXR Flanger/Doubler?
It's really fantastic. It does both sides of the original very accurately. The real thing has an extra little bit of signal oomph and "musicality" to the flange, but the Astra is so damn close. That's true of the other effects it emulates as well, like the CE-1, Fender amp tremolo, and the "bonus" Script Phase 90 model. I'm always going back and forth as to whether to even keep / deal with the expense of maintaining the real stuff when UA's pedal line is that good.

no band, just jam with friends. Mostly play psychedelic/ shoegaze/ space rock with some garage thrown in. Digging this setup currently. I rotate fuzzes a fair amount and I’m always looking for interesting pedals to spice things up.

QUESTION FOR ALL THREAD PARTICIPANTS… What pedals do you have the most fun getting creative with? What are your “secret” weapons?
(hard to pick for me but the most essential for my tone is fuzz. Tremolo is my favorite modulation. My wild card for crazy/trippy stuff is ebow)

I've just taken a bunch off my board, most notably overdrive.

Fuzz face, Naga Viper, GFI Orca getting me 99% of the way there now. Those 3 and the guitar volume us yielding a ton of shades of tones. Just need a Vibe Machine for its compact nature and might get a Tre-Verb for other stuff and then set.

Once I mod the wah to work with the fuzz....

Spark one up and sit down in the studio on a Saturday night with a glass of Canadian Club on the rocks with some mood lighting and next minute I’m in another universe.
Yeah it’s crazy but id trade them all for a little more.
I used to obsess about the right order but everything sounds great where it is with some experimenting.
My favorite is the moog phaser and the hog 2 both connected to the same expression pedal controlling the moog speed and hog pitch

You must be a professional at it. How did you make the templates for each effect and piece of gear? It looks professionally done! :aok
There are several ways... I have a folder with a lot of images from the now extinct Guitargeek website that I use. In most cases, I take parts from other pedals/amps in order to create a new one... or, I go to another folder in which I keep all the stuff I already made and start the same process all over again

That's awesome. Makes me wish I still had my Mac loaded with the adobe suite software!

Nice setup, but I really dig the guitars here, beautiful trio.

One of my favorite creative tools is doing big filter sweeps using either a Spaceman Explorer Deluxe or a Chase Bliss/Zvex Bliss Factory with an expression pedal. Any pedal with a good filter and expression control is inspiration for days in these genres.

Not really "stoner" or psych, per se, but we get into krautrock, Spacemen 3, Hawkwind territory when I get active on the pedalboard during our garage-punk.

Jaguar or Jazzmaster into:

DIY Fuzzrite (Si)
Boss TU-2 Tuner
Boss DF-2 Super Feedbacker & Distortion
Cuvave DigVerb (swells and 100% wet, a budget dream)
ProCo Rat (w/switchable Turbo and Ruetz mods)
Behringer Superfuzz (garage, not doom)
Eno/EX BF-2 Flanger (for liquid swirl)
Donner Stylish Fuzz (for kaboom)
Boss DD-5 Digital Delay (tap for dotted 1/8)
Boss RV-2 Digital Reverb (Plate. Long.)

Split to:
Fender Deluxe 112 Plus (1997)
Crate GLX212
ZT Lunchbox (w/15" bass speaker ext cab)

Amps set bold and super-duper clean, with just a smidge of the short-tank spring reverb on the D112+.

And loud. Loud loud loud. I consider the PA for vocals and a little echo on the toms, and maybe mic the bottom cab and give me some lows and low mids in the house to make up for our lack of a bassist. We want the muted E-chord to kick us in the chest when she whomps in sync on her floor tom and big-ass kick drum. That said, this rig can solidly render her inaudible in our "face-off" practice arrangement.

Again, more "alt-drone" than doom or stoner or true psych, but as a two piece we sound like the Stripes if they liked Agent Orange, Stooges, the Cure, Spacemen 3, JAMC, etc., instead of trad blooze.

Anyone using flanger in Their psych rig? Or does anyone have a tasty clip of a psychedelic song with flanger in it?

I have a c4… maybe I need to dig into that more.

No clips yet, but I just decided to add Flanger to my board. I bought a Spaceman Aurora, ADA PDF Flanger and PastFX Reticon Flanger. All three are very different, so I’m having a hard time choosing which one to keep. It’s great for adding depth and dimension to clean tones without using chorus which can sound a bit dated at times to me.
