I think one poster got it right: Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals. You can take a nap during dogs.

Back when I used to listen to that stuff:

    Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
    Sleep - Jerusalem
    Goatsnake - Flower Of Disease

That was what I still remember as heavy albums that floored me. Acid King was probably the best live band of that style I ever saw. Fu Manchu = funnest. Earthless = hearing damage.

As a fan of sabs/coc/kyuss/clutch/wino, I went deeper into exploring stoner/doom about ten years ago, and bought/traded many of the bands mentioned here (fu manchu/orange goblin/atomic bitchwax/high on fire/melvins/fudge tunnel/QOTSA/electric wizard/wofat); I had the same problem with most of 'em that I have w/ many metal bands... the vocals. I like good melodic singing.

I got into Sasquatch a few months ago, and that's the first CD of theirs that I bought. Imagine a great stoner rock band with Chris Cornell singing. Love them.

Think of it as old "heavy metal" ala Black Sabbath. Heavy, riff based, rock. There are a bunch of flavors of it-- but that's pretty much the genre. Some of those flavors are things like Desert Rock, Doom, Sludge.

Some of my discoveries over the past year-- Mothership, Elephant Tree, Slo Burn (with singer from Kyuss), Unida (also singer from Kyuss), Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity, Sleep, Toke, Murder City Devils, Sasquatch, Goya, Pelican. I'd throw Wolfmother into that mix too.

While some earlier Soundgarden had a bit of a stonerish vibe, I wouldn't call them stoner rock at all.

[IMG] Don't know if it's considered stoner rock but I remember being stoned listening to it when I was younger

    "Stoner Rock"??

Where I come from that would encompass at least 30 years worth of classics......

I saw them in SA on Saturday night. Really good show. Def really cool to see a show with three bands you love.

I think any album that starts off with the lyrics, "Are you high??? Are you high??? C'mon...let's get it on!" qualifies...
