I'm thinking of getting another 62 AVRI and install the Suhr ML Classics, but lately another idea have started to spin thrugh my head - getting a Suhr Classic Strat, which already have the Suhr ML pickups... Then I'll end upp spending 800 more, but is it really worth it?

    62 AVRI, 900-1100 + pickups 240 = approx. 1140-1340.

Suhr Classic Strat = around 2k

    What to do? :huh

another 62, does that mean you still have one? Then I'd get the Suhr. But I'd prolly get the Suhr anyway, as I've been told, they are some very fine playing, and sounding geetars. It's easy to spend another man's money.

Have you ever played a Suhr? That would be the best way to make up your mind.

Suhr. Spring for the SSC. Save a little longer if you have to to get it. You won't regret it. You'll thank me later.

Both the ML classics & standards are great!

I would go for the Suhr. No issues, perfect playability, and you can dial in the specs as you like them.

Had a sherwood green 62 AVHR that I just couldn't point anything wrong with the guitar, it was great... But I just think my Suhr Classic was head and shoulders above. If the money isn't really a problem, go Suhr.

Two completely different animals. If you prefer superior quality, a guitar built to YOUR preferred specs and a lifelong warranty from a guy that offers some of the best customer service on the planet and will return emails and take phone calls, get the Suhr. If you must have a Fender, buy a Fender and then start modding it.

Having 2 Fender AVRI 62 Strats, I'd vote for the Fender...

I think there's a AVRI 62 Hot Rod in the Emporium that already has the FL pickups installed....FYI....NFI

Suhr. Impeccable, masterful craftsmanship. Perfect playability. You'd really have to play one to understand the gap in quality between those two guitars. And to fully assess whether the jump in price would be worth it to you.

Thanks for all the input. Suhr guitars are surely nice, but I am not so sure that difference in tone is that big. Obviously, the craftmanship and quality in Suhr are better. Lately, even Landau himself has been using Fenders exclusively, on his recent European tour he was playing a 70's strat the whole tour.

To get the Fender in the same ballpark as the Suhr you would have to:

    • Run the racks to find a good one
    • Get it rewired and spring for better pickups
    • Get it Plek'd by someone who knows what they are foing
    • Get a million other little tweaks done
    • Forget about ever being able to talk to Fender to solve any issues
These of course would run into the hundreds, cost-wise. The only things (to me) in favour of the Fender are:

    • The 'cachet' of the name, and of course if you really must have the headstock (as some want)
    • A certain roughness in the sound (in my experience, Suhrs sound a little smoother, more 'pro')
If you're after the Suhr, word is the SSC will be coming down in price as they are out of a licensing agreement and changing the design.
