I bought a used Strat from Guitar Center today. The serial number starts with V. Are the AVRI's the only ones to start with that? Also, would the body have any tell tale markings under the pickguard to prove its origin? The p'ups appear to be Rio Grande, good p'ups?

    Thanks!

I think there were MIJ Fender strats that have serial starting with V as well, but I'm not sure it is on the neck plate. AVRIS have the V serial engraved on the neck plate for sure.

If that could help the old 57/62 AVRIs have the following features (though not unique to the series):
    - Nitro finish
    - Headstock decal on top of the finish
    - Date penciled or stamped at the neck butt.
    - "worm" route under the bridge pu.
    - Stock pups are 57/62 (2 versions: pre- and post- 1998)

Thanks! The logo is on top of the finish and it has the V on the neck plate. I'll take it apart and see what's inside.
