I would like a chunkier neck for my 60s MIM strat. Is it a hassle to replace a neck. I assume I have to take it to a tech and have it propertly set up.
I just would like to know as much as I can before looking for a replacement. Thanks in advance!
If it already has tuners and a nut, slap it on yourself to make sure it sounds good and feels good to you.
If you like the new neck enough to keep, THEN take it in for a pro setup. Probably run about $40 to $50, SO LONG AS: the neck is attached and has strings on it when you take it in!
Just be aware that there are flat bottomed and radiused nut slots - slots that follow the fretboard radius. Of course, trying your existing nut is worth a try.
I've tried to save money on projects like this, and the next time I buy a neck, it will be after talking to the good folks at USA Custom Guitars. Better to buy it once and buy it right.
