Has anyone seen/heard a guitar that had a strat 3-pickup style configuration, but had a Tele neck pickup in the middle? Is there something bad with this idea? I don't see it around a whole lot, usually if there is a combination of Tele and strat pickups, they just put another strat pickup in the middle.

    Thanks.

The only thing that I have seen even close is the Blackout Tele. It has two Tele neck pickups.

Usually Tele neck pickups have a rather indistinct tone - no bite. It was designed to be more of a jazz tone back in the 50s. The Strat pickup had much more bite, hence it was natural for it to be used in the middle position as well. Now putting a Tele bridge pickup in the middle might be interesting...

So would the Tele neck be too wooly in the middle position?
