    Hey everyone,
I'm a 36 year old guy living in Portland, originally from California (don't hate me for that, Oregonians)...20 of those years with a guitar in my hand. I wish I'd practiced hard all those years, ha ha. I love a good clean Strat tone and currently play a '97 Amr Std. w/ Eric Johnson Strat pickups (got 'em off E-bay) through a Boss Giga Delay into a Fender 4x10 De Ville. I also have an Ibanez floral pattern Jem from my Steve Vai fanboy days, though she's rarely plugged in.

I am currently obsessed with Don Grosh Retro Classics, spending many an hour searching for them on the 'net. Fralins, Nitro-finished, light-weight, blend control, wow...

I love this site! Thanks for reading...
    David

    First off, welcome.

My wife and I are strongly considering (and have been for well over a year) relocating to either a Portland suburb (like Tigard) or further south in the Willamette Valley.

What's the music scene like up there? I mean both opportunities to play and to hear great live music? I'm on the mailing list for the Alladin Theatre. They get some cool acts like Roger McGuinn that don't ever really make it down into So Cal. Do major tours like Mark Knopfler, James Taylor (two shows we are seeing this summer) ever make it into Portland?

    Just curious.

    MLT,

Music scene is very good. It's not a major stop for all tours, but for most it is!

    See also;

    Roseland Theater
    Crystal Ballroom

Two of the biggest little venues in the city.

There are most definitely worse places you could end up living :). I've all but traveled the world and am quite content calling the greater Portland area my home.

    Ben

PS. Income taxes in Oregon stink though! Glad to work in WA! :)

    Thanks for the greetings, everyone!

The music scene here seems pretty strong, though I spend most nights at home with the girlfriend, dog and Strat. Mark Knopfler just played the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall here a week or two ago, though some acts do skip Portland and hit Seattle instead.

I thought you might like to take a look at the Willamette Week, a popular free weekly here in town. Here's their online music page:

Oh yeah, I should say that I mostly only look to see when Eric Johnson's coming to town! He's played three times in the three years I've been here. One of those times was at the Blues Festival, a rockin' multi-stage event along the Willamette River, with an entry fee of two cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank. What a great city...
