    Hi Everyone,

    "Mercy And The Wolf"...

    http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=110014

I've been trying to get the time and money for a while to do a record, and I managed to make it to the studio last night for a "tone test" to see how one of my tunes would sound. Its kinda hard to write the song at home, and then have to imagine what the lead would sound like over it (I don't have a home studio).

Here's what's going on with this one:
    rhythm: Telecaster and Bogner Metropolis
opening lead: Strat and Bogner (no fuzz) doubled left and right
lead 1: Strat and Lovepedal Ezekiel (set to "Rangemaster")
repeat opening lead (same as above)
lead 2: Tele and Lovepedal Ezekiel (set to "MKII")

as usual, everything played in standard tune.

    Check it out!
    Randy

Your tone and playing is very cool!

I enjoyed this. Just a recommendation... try adding some effects. Seemed very dry... a small amount of delay, chorus or reverb will give your composition a little more space.

    you're right...
we cut it very quickly, like 30 minutes or so.
there's no production to speak of, but I wanted to see if everything fit well together.
    thanks!

    thanks, rkstarr!
I sincerely appreciate your saying that. There's a lot of really talented people on this forum, and that's a real compliment for sure.

I've been trying to get with a good singer/songwriter for a while now. I've met some great ones, but nothing really seems to come together. So, I guess I'm just going to go ahead and do this myself. Why sit and wonder?

    Hey Randy
Of course I dug the track.
    Slide guy to slide guy.
Cool ideas, nice melody mixed with neat riffs.
    Constructive criticism-
If you have two guitars 'talking' to each other, why not a bit more of a dramatic difference. Maye two different guitars, different fx and eq, amp, One clean- one dirty.
Recently I got into Jack Pearson and bought both of his solo albums. Great slide player of course- but he does a lot of overdubbing and call and answer, but he's like 20 different guitar players all in one. One minute there's a twangy tele, then a jazzy 335, and ovcerdriven slide, then a clean strat.
that kind of versatility is all over his records and keeps it very interesting.
I found myself looking for that kind of feel in your already excellent track.

    hey, barry!
    i see what you mean.
the opening lick is doubled too tight, too exact... it needs some "out-ish" inflections there to make it have that shimmer that I like so much. I did that with another track, and it was more effective. I do like the idea of variety, though. I think I'll work up some ideas along those lines.
