Strictly FUZZ

MOD EDIT: as you may know, thread sizes are no longer limited by the forum software. I've merged all 15 "Strictly FUZZ" threads together here, and you can continue to post until we tell you otherwise all in this big thread. Cheers! ~ SA

A great TGP philosopher recently stumbled upon a simple yet profound observation, so aptly expressed with the words:
"FUZZ is life."

I believe it was Nietzsche who authored the great aphorism:
"Without FUZZ, life would be a mistake."

Let us not forget little Gaius aka Caligula, who once declared:
"If FUZZ only had one trannie..."

Here it is. The closest thing to a FUZZ Forum we have. To quote Juvenal, "Let them have FUZZ and circuses."

There is a learning curve for using FUZZ in a live setting, no question. Fortunately, builders are making them so they are more gig friendly and stackable. It's a sound I've always preferred over distortion, but for ages no one wanted me to use one. Especially in the 80s, when I had a vintage (not so vintage then) DA Fuzz Face my dad bought me for my 14th birthday. I no longer have the blasted thing, unfortunately.

Well ILF has like 1/20th as many registered users (6,000 vs. 117,000) as TGP, so it won't be the same kind of bustling metropolis as it is here, but it is definitely a community of knowledgable folks that are generally pretty friendly. You could always start a dedicated fuzz thread here similar to the alt-country ones (or the Doom Room on HC, which is now on ILF).

There are a lot of threads around here that function in that "forum within a forum" role. There are ongoing threads like the Doom Room, etc. where folks hang out to discuss a topic of common interest.

So, I guess what I'm saying is see what happens if you start a big fuzz thread. Or see if this becomes something like that.

...and a delay subforum! And a reverb one. And one about ODs. And distortions can't be left out. And boosts. With separate subforums for clean and dirty ones! And one just for Timmy discussions. And another for Klons and their clones... :D

That would be awesome, but I've joined DAM Forum for that, although I don't have many posts as they have a very odd moderation tactic to somewhat "initiate" new members to make sure there are no trolls. It also has way fewer members.

I agree. I would like to see more in depth discussion about how the fuzz addicts among us actually use them. You really have to tune your rig and playing around fuzz to make it work sometimes, and I would like to know how others make it work. And then there's the whole process of finding your own ideal fuzz tone.... I think there is plenty of trivium to discuss.

Me? Have a Mini Bone on the way, recently realized the Boss FZ-3 is incredible, and I use a Twin with single coils for best results. I'm stockpiling the buzziest fuzzes I can find because it gets me off. My ears hurt regularly. That's all for now.

Fuzz is something I aspire to. I have owned many- including some of the heavy hitters. Skreddy Mayo/LMMD/SD, Cornish SS2, Analogman Sunface, BJFE CAF/FF/PPF/AWF/SWF, as well as many FFs, Muffs, and other assorted fuzzes along the way.

Every time I buy a fuzz, I try it out, play a few Gilmour riffs, and then never touch it again. I want to fuzz out, it just doesn't ever happen for me...
