I play 10's and I find that some brands/kinds of strings feel stiffer than others. I am wondering if the string tension is the same across different brands of strings of the same gauge or if some are higher than others.

Tension can vary between strings of the same gauge but different constructions or wrap to core ratios. For example, flat wounds are typically higher tension than equivalent gauges of round wounds. And some strings have thinner or thicker core wire, which makes a difference in tension and flexibility.

Yep. No two strings are perfectly alike.
