Stronger strings for lighter gauge guitars

I use D'Addarios 10's on all my guitars, but prefer the lighter feel on my les paul and prs, but really feel the tension when I switch to my strat, longer scale length. From what I understand, strats come from the factory with 9's, and there are a lot of players that prefer 9's on the strat. I'd like to give them a try. I typically do not break strings, but usually have a spare guitar behind me ready to go if needed during a gig. Am I sacrificing strength going to the 9's on a longer scale guitar, or overthinking it? Longevity isn't an issue for me, I change strings with each gig (don't gig that often), so string strength is more the issue. Any suggestions?
