I have a traynor ycv50 1x12 combo..if i buy a 2x12 cab with the intensions of maybe getting a head down the line..will it power the traynor with the 3rd speaker in the amp as well? Or do i have to unplug it and only use the 2x12

Can you disconnect the internal speaker, or is it hardwired?

What's the impedance options on the back of the amp?

What impedance is the 2x12 cab?

What's the impedance of the amp's built in speaker?

Check the impedence on the back of the amp. You might be able to run them both. For example, I have a Mesa that has a 1x12 running at 8 ohms and a 2x12 also running at 8 ohms. I just plug them into the two 4 ohm outputs and run all three at the same time.

It all depends on how the amp is designed. Just make sure there's an impedance match. This will help your amp and its tubes to last.

This is the response from the YCV50 user manual:
These under-the-chassis mounted 1/4 inch jacks allow convenient connection of an
8-ohm external speaker cabinet. If you disconnect the internal 12 inch Celestion®
speaker, you can connect up to two 8-ohm external cabinets.

That's a pretty straight forward answer. Get an 8 ohm external cab and you're ok either using with with the combo or with another amp.

This, and if you must mismatch, make sure the amp impedance is lower than the cab impedance. We always strive to match impedances, I have been around folks that mismatch, in the above way, and it seems to work out, although not sure about long term.
