Sturgill Simpson Is as Surprised as You About His Grammy Nomination
it's funny, I have friends that listen to pretty much nothing but "Country," I ask them if they like Sturgill Simpson and they never heard of him. Country Radio is a joke these days.
Wow. I don't really listen to country, but I've heard a bit of his stuff and it's very good.
IMHO I see him as the equivalent of Nirvanas impact on rock. They came along in '91 and made the hair metal crew look totally ridiculous. There were others that came before, but they became the face of the movement.
Simpson is doing the same thing to bro country. He's not alone, but he's proud to be the man outfront. God bless him for it.
I'll drink to that! Time for me to buy some Sturgill albums, I think.
I hear he's pretty surprised by the nomination.
Really? Sturgill Simpson (and I assume you mean guys like Chris Stapleton) are going to cause the demise of Bro Country?
Grammy's are a joke anymore.
Let's not get crazy, now... @teledude55 's friends who listen to country don't know who the guy is, and he's Nirvana?
Nah, Stapleton is a bro in disguise.
Isbell, Margo Price, maren Morris...that crew. Good stuff
It's a process and I'm trying to be hopeful.
I look guys like Jason Isbell too. I can see a parallel to what happened with grunge. There is bound to be a pushback against the status quo at some point.
I know think they give 2 ***** if they're on the radio or not.
Somebody has to give a **** if it's on the radio. Where is this takeover of the mainstream supposed to happen?
The bro's are on their way out, it was all too apparent at the ACM's this year. It's not going to be outsiders(wink wink) that change it, just a different flavor of syrup.
Speaking of SS and the ACM's. He threw that tantrum over Merle and nobody gave a **** or did anything about it. And guess what? The tribute was fantastic. Gotta be an outlaw...
The mainstream is no longer on the radio. It's online and it's free.
Dang, there may have been a revolution and I totally missed it! I probably missed the Beatles of country online!
I like this, and I think he has a good chance at winning.
Weren't the same people that pushed Nirvana essentially the same people that pushed whatever bands came before them?
I've always been on outskirts of nearly every "genre", i.e. I've checked out the heavy hitters..... but nearly every "genre" has always been filled with cheese. Even during Nirvana wasn't there a ton of it on MTV and the radio.... I mean look at 1993... favorite country single is "Achy Breaky Heart" and Billy Ray Cyrus is favorite new country artist. In 1992 the favorite new rock artist was Firehouse. Revolution has a name and it is Firehouse.
Yeah, kinda strange. im not a huge fan of country but i play in a country band to pass the time. ill ask the members who are country freaks and they have never heard of him either. one of the ladies in my rock band listens to only country and has also never heard of him.
Also kinda strange that i know who he is and have listened to a bunch of his stuff.
Congrats to Sturgill, it is a great album.
