How much do you want to spend?
doesn't matter. i'll take cheap and expensive solutions. I am not a huge delay guy, just using it for thickening a wee bit and also some triply clean stuff. must play well with other dirt or fuzz pedals if possible...
I have a Digitech DL-8 stuck on the analog mode. It's not too bright, not too dark & doesn't add fizz to your fuzz.
Maybe let us know what delays you are perceiving is brightening up the original tone? I think the Carbon Copy and Aqua Puss are great but at least one person here thought the CC brightened up the original tone (but I don't on my rig)
Get a DMM and true bypass it!
the one and only... diamond memory lane 2...
+1 on Carbon Copy. T. Rex Replica, although the delay is less analog and more just ... gorgeous. -E
Wampler Faux tape Echo
no true bypass delays should be brightening up your tone when not engaged.
if you already have a buffered delay you like you might look into getting a true-bypass loop.
Deep Blue Delay
I just read the OP more closely and your right, bypass signal is not changed on a true bypass pedal. I thought he meant the original tone during operation.
Cmatmods Deeelay is really inexpensive and sounds better than a lot of much more expensive delays that I have tried.
Montavillian is my favorite.
+1 carbon copy.
my same tone-quest : Maxon is best at what you are requesting, the AD999pro is the best but it eats out the attack of the note so I ruled it out, the standard AD999 is the best
