Suggestions on getting this effect...

Been really into mayer as of recent (please this is not a mayer thread debate so if you love him/hate em keep it to yourself) and was wondering what suggestions you have on getting this effect (beginning of song). Here's what i know:

• It's an envelope filter
• I know it's a Roger linn adrenalinn iii

Here's my question:What other pedal would come close to this effect? I was thinking maybe the proteus or prometheus? I'm really going for that effect not really needing it for anything else as far as tweekablitliy. Small footprint would be great and for a good price as well. Thanks for the suggestions...now let em start!

some kinda filter. my vox wah on it's heal gets me close nough.

in the few interviews i've read on jm, he's stated he likes the adrenalinn boxes as idea generators, and on the roger linn site he did list the presets that jm used on various songs, i think that's back when he was using the adrenalinn I, sounds like the filter-tremolo preset on the adrenalinn, but don't quote me...

I would try the Proteus, using the stage 1 filter and experimenting w/ the depth knob.

Just out of curiosity... why wouldn't you just get a cheap AdrenaLinn 1, especially since that's the target sound?

Why not check out the Boss AW-3? I'm using an older version Boss filter, but if you tweak it correctly, it sounds really good. The trick with the sound you're hearing is to set the sensativity low in order that the filter will not open unless you pick pretty hard (this enables more control and more of a real wah type sound overall instead of an automated wah) and set the filter to only cover a small frequency range.
