Suhr Koko boost vs. RC Booster vs. other boosters

Hey guys-

I have a Keeley Katana that I love, and was running it exclusively with my lead tone to give me a boost.

However, I feel like having an additional clean boost would be of use. I could either put the new one in my lead tone chain, or just have it as sort of 'insurance' at the end. I play in a band, and often times our volumes don't necessarily stay consistent (drummer, blah!)

I've really been thinking about the Suhr Koko boost to boost my mids a bit while increasing my volume.

I also had looked at an EP booster to enhance my cleans, but not sure if that's the way to go for more of a solo or clean boost, rather than an always on pedal.

What do you guys think?

The Koko is an excellent pedal, but it is clean boost at one side and midboost on the other.. Not 2 clean boosters.

If you put it in the beggining of your chain you'll get gain boost for you overdriven and dist leads, not volume boost (unless you're playing clean).

If you put it in the end of the pedalboard's signal chain you'll get clean overall volume (not gain) boost on the left side and a huge mid hump on the right side, almost like puting a wah at the end of your chain and than boosting the overall volume, wich may or may not be useable for you.

My opinion based on actual use is that it is not the right pedal for end-of-the-chain applications.. But you may find it works for you this way.

I use the Koko at the begining of the chain as a buffer (pedal off) and kick the left side in to balance volume/gain when I jump from my humbucker guitars to my strat. At the end of the chain I have a Radial Loopbone wich has a very nice clean boost and I assign it's boost footswitch to also engage the right side of the Koko via the external sw relay jack.. So I have the Radial's clean volume boost post gain and the Koko mid-boost pre-gain w/ one single stomp. Real neat.. To further enhance the one-stomp experience the Radial's design easily allows me to stomp on the boost footswitch and the loop B footswitch at the same time (where I have a reverb/delay pedal connected). So I have a fuul preset for leads.. all analog.

Would highly recomend this for anyone that don't want to put a large programmable loop box on the board.

If dual clean boosters is what you're after, I'd recomend you take a look at the excellent ZVex Super Dupper. Or get 2 clean booster from Xotic, JHS, and the like.. They're all good and not expensive.

Thanks for the reply sherwood. I actually just ordered the KoKo Boost after reading some positive reviews. I already have a Keeley Katana, and one will likely just be an always on pedal.

I think you will like it. I have the Koko Boost and it rocks. My favorite sound is the mid boost into an already overdriven amp. Cheers.

Was trying to get some last minute opinions but I think I'll dig it. I want something that is a very transparent clean boost, but also has a bit of versatility and voicing for a lead tone. Pretty stoked! I'll post my thoughts when I receive it.

Just saw this thread pop up and thought I'd add something.

The koko in my opinion isn't really the best pedal (for my personal taste) into a super clean amp. Into a Marshall style amp though, the Koko is absolutely marvellous.
