Hi, last year I asked John if it would be possible to create a pick up with just a little bit more push without losing the same basic tone as the original Thornbucker bridge pickup... So he wound some pickups and we all listened, we settled on a pickup that's about 8.7k and sounds just wonderful- a hair more "balls" than the standard 8.4k version, with all the clarity and the same basic tonal color. I love it! We discovered that you have to be careful with the alnico 4 magnet- Wind it too hot and it loses that magic clarity, that is so important to me.

By the way the pick up is in the bridge position of my white Suhr Classic S now, which I have used in a number of videos recently including the video for the Line 6 helix I did- you can really hear the picKip sing and do its thing in that video!

Pete, I appreciate that you're so unselfish with your time and knowledge. No substitute for this level of "insider info" on a piece of gear.

Hmmmm....very interesting! I've been using high output pickups for what seems forever (currently have Suhr SSH+ and a Motor City Afwayu in my guitars), and this is a very intriguing lower output option.

You've got a lot of fans here who are very interested in your thoughts on music and gear. You've got a great sense of tone and you're playing is amazing. Thanks for taking time for us mere mortals!

Great news. I didn't know it was Alnico 4. That is my favorite humbucker magnet if the pickup is wound correctly.

    Mr. Thorn,
You've helped created some great, low output PAF humbauckers, but there's no Suhr singlecut to go with it. Since you have Mr. Suhr's ear, can you suggest a mahoganh/maple topped single cut guitar to go with your Thornbucker pickups?

We've got the relish and catsup, now we need the hamburger!

Are these available non-direct mount? I would like to put a set in a guitar with rings but the nickel covered ones on the site have large mounting holes.

I think that's just the pic making it look that way; I had the same thought when I was buying my (non +) set for a Les Paul. The holes in mine were standard size and fitted with no issues. Nice pickups!

Anyone have any luck finding a TB+?
I was going to try out the normal set, but am curious about it. However, not having heard the 1st version am I not sure that I would even need it "overwound".
    Has anyone tried both? Preferences?

Try Lark Music in San Antonio - call or email them - that's where I got my regular Thorny set from. Great service!
