Ran across this church band when I was looking up some covers of Hold On Loosely. My gosh what a smoking band. Flatirons Community Church in Colorado. Check out as many of their covers as you can. Somehow they work these songs into the message I guess. Maybe it's just me but these are some SERIOUS musicians. And there are a bunch of them that rotate in and out. Superb vocals too. I know they seem to have the money to really produce these videos and make the sound killer, and probably some processing after the fact. But still. Holy smokes. How many church bands have rappers in their lineup? Maybe I'm just behind the times.

That would suck hearing any of those songs at church.
Good cover band, but I don't ever need to hear any of those songs again.

If there was a church locally that offered this on Friday/Saturday night for young teens as an option to, well everything else going on Friday/Saturday night, I know where my tithe would have been going when my kids were that age.

This video might help put into perspective how they seem to use the music. Sort of a medley, and they work the sermon into the music or vice versa. BTW, they have over 23,000 members now and are the 23rd largest church in the US. And climbing.

I too think these songs are totally inappropriate to be played in a church.

I played in a setting similar to that for 8 years in KC. The leader was a vocal performance major, could sing opera in 4 languages. Amazing singer. We had quite a rotation, and a few pros. Didn't have the dancing spots, and a bit smaller venue. I sure miss playing there. We covered Hotel California Halloween weekend one year. One of our guys played the solo note for note.

Another church band in Dallas (Carrollton), Bent Tree is also very good. My cousin, Scott Sanford plays for them. Melodic prog rock guy. http://www.scottsanford.com

Empire state of mind? Rap covers like that don't work for me.

    Otherwise they sound good.

A most excellent cover band indeed. If they are achieving proper results with their songs/message, the message is the focus, and that message is getting through and having an effect, then they are doing the right thing (and doing it well).

I've never been able to get used to lasers and light shows in churches. I know they are trying to stay relevant, but I don't think anyone has ever been disappointed in a church because it didn't look like the gatefold for Kiss Alive II.

I'm not a religous guy and I totally agree with Hank Hill.

Are they really playimg those songs in a church?
