Does anybody know a cheap alternative to the stock tuners on a 2007 Fender Standard Strat?

Bought a good beater...put in some old pickups..almost there...needs better tuners? What's cheap....and ...What will fit? I'm not good at drilling.

I had purchased a mim strat maple neck with no tuners, I wanted vintage tuners(my absolute fave, stays waaay in tune as well) but had to get the proper bushings for it from guitar fetish.com easy as pie. not sure what the bushing size was. the vintage are older and thinner so you do need the bushings. with a carefully wrapped in cloth pliar squeeze, the bushings go right in. hope this helps.
I recommend the wilkinson vintage style(again)

does anyone know if the locking Schallers fit on this?

Doesnt Fender route out all of the MIM strats the same as the other strats?

I was going to suggest the locking tuners. I have seen the old strat plus locking tuners on MIM strats but unsure if the holes had been modified. Good luck!

grover mini 6 in-line lockers. has a spinning mechanism that serves as the locking source instead of a plunger or other type. therefore they are awfully close in weight to the originals.
However, I think they are Made in China now and thats fine mine have been excellent for 7 years. Someone smarter than me should be able to chime in about these Grovers as to where they are made now.

thanks for the bump blood...i think more people would want to know options out there....69 bucks for schaller or sperzels really isn't cost effective for a replacement when you only spent 350 on the guitar.....

if you really like the guitar though its an option...
Ive seen people spend more on pickups and hardware fixing up Mexican strats than the strat costs itself....sometimes you just get a good feeling strat, even if its mexican, and its worth the expense, IMO...

I installed the mini Grover locking tuners on my MIM 50's RI Strat. Better than the stock tuners, but still pulls out of whack when I really bend a string or beat on the trem arm. However, I don't really care for the other locking systems, as they don't retain the vintage look or are matte finish.

I put Schallers on my MIJ '60s strat...it was the best mod I did to it, even better than the Kinmans I put in it. I had to have a local tech drill out the holes a bit for them to fit, but it was totally worth it. I can't stand a guitar that won't stay in tune!

I think part of my tuning stability problem was the extra string tree I put between my D and G strings. The friction against those not only causes extra tension on the strings, but can cause the string to hang up. (see headstock photo on page one of this thread).

I bought some decent tuners at GC awhile back for like $30 bucks. They were off brand and I coulda ordered em for cheaper but i wanted them now. I was pretty impressed with the quality for the money.
