Just when i thought the Komets couldn't get any better...

...one of my NOS Tesla (nonJJ) preamp tubes went microphonic lately and I noticed that Mike at KCA NOS Tubes had some NOS Telefunken 12AX7s in stock. It arrived today and I replaced the Tesla with the Telefunken and the Concorde tone just knocked me on my butt!!

I played the Concorde through a Germino 4x12 with Heritage G12H30s and the overdrive was to die for. This is the first time I have ever played a NOS Telefunken, and it is just such a sweet tone you never want to stop playing. Then crank it up and the overdrive just makes you smile like an idiot!!

I guess I'm going to have to buy a few more of these tubes before they are all gone!!

    Thank you Mike!!

Are you using the smooth or ribbed plates? The ribbed plates are right up there with Mullard shield logos for my favorite 12AX7! I had all of my Komets loaded with both varieties.

    Enjoy!

Oh man - That is one heck of an endorsement. Going to have to check them out - Thanks Mike.

By the way - what do you have in the other two sockets? I'm assuming the Tesla was in 1.

But prefer Mullards and Amperex in both my Komets and my Wrecklica.

Found Teles accurate, balanced and kind of sterile/flat versus Mullards/Amperex which have more colorful, fatter mids and sweeter highs, to my ears.

Could be finding the magic ones...understand that a lot of KF's tuning of amps was done with a large stash of tubes and his ears. He told me that he liked Teles alot in certain amps along with other NOS european tubes.

    Ah, great to hear, Mike!
Gene said he'd "hook up" some nice NOS tubes for me, so I'm curious to see what they'll be. I'd like to try some Tele's down the road, for sure.

Hey Eddie how are you? I've got NOS Teslas all the way through the Concorde.

Gene is a big Mullard and Tunsgram fan! Clearly you won't go wrong with his choice of NOS goodies!

I know squat about NOS tubes. When the time comes to re-tube my Concorde, should I just call Mike at KCA and ask his opinion? What is everyone running in each position?

I really like original Tesla EL34's. For new ones, the winged C 34's sound great.
Preamp tubes, I like a Mullard in V1 and Amperex in V2 and V3. The Tung Sol reissue sounded good to me in V1 as well.
