Any reason to cross-grade from my Beta 52?

Personally, I tend to lump (for better or worse) all of the tailored-response kick mics (Beta52, AKG D112, Senn e602, Audix I6, etc.) into the same category. That is to say, with placement and some eq, any of those mics will sound "as-good-as" any of the others for the type of job they are performing. At $99, the EV is a good deal, but I don't know that it will give you more/better sound than you already have.

I realize this is not what you're asking, but I would probably save up and get a decent condenser, like the AT4047 or Roswell Mini47, to use as an additional mic for the kick. Set it back a foot or two and blend to taste. You can build a quilt tent to isolate it from the rest of the kit if need be. That would really give you a different sound to work with.
