Ok well I’ve never seen it happen with countless retailers/products across decades of buying things with registration codes and can’t imagine there’s a person at a company as big as Sweetwater who goes around opening anything with a registration code and hiding it somewhere.

I’d wager that would violate a sales agreement with a manufacturer anyways.

At any rate, this is worth repeating:

    :bonk

My guess is that if the code isn’t actually in the box there was an error in packaging or it’s possibly a return

    Apparently you overlooked...

"Demo" probably means "open box". So, if there is anything here that's "dumb", it's probably not my original post.

Why have we created the expectation that everything we order from anyone will be perfect in every way and that if it isn't, we create a thread on our favorite forum? It's getting old, gang.

It would be sad if someone created a thread every time I didn't meet someone's expectations. Try to be reasonable.

Stuff needs to be usable right out of the box. That's not a trivial detail. If the thing isn't usable without a code, then the code has to be there in the original shipment. (In this case perhaps it was but that's orthogonal to your point.)

I think some of you are missing the fact that he bought a demo version. That means that this was originally purchased by one of you mooks who then had buyer’s remorse and returned it. Perhaps without remembering to put the codes back in the box. And then Sweetwater’s only recourse was to sell it as a demo at a reduced cost.

Demo items are typically not a problem unless they have a software component that involves a single use license.

I had something similar happen with a demo Roli MiDI controller I had purchased. I typically steer clear of buying demos for those types of products.

Side bar: How do you like the Roli stuff? I've always been interested.

It’s a little quirky and probably better suited to someone with better keyboard performance chops than me. But it does open up some possibilities that can’t be achieved with a standard MIDI controller.

I’d recommend getting your hands on one for a demo before buying.

You should've opened the box earlier as well but no big deal, I don't know if this is worth discussing but I can understand that it can be frustrating waiting for something as exciting as music gear.
I have to wait 45 days or more for a pedal to be delivered from China & there is no one to talk to.

I'm going to Sweetwater today. That place is like an amusement park for music nerds.
