Syn 5050 is not that great of a power amp, I’d go with literally anything else. I have both a Mesa 2020 and Mesa 2:90 in my rig, and have zero headroom issues.

I think I will give the 5050 a chance. I see Steve Vai are using them exclusively now. Recent live stuff sounds as good as ever.

Agreed. Seems like there are a lot of people who like the 5050 PA too.

The mids in my 295 is vastly different the pa in my caa od50.
The 295 gives a little more Bonamassa-ish mids, compared to the od50.
The OD50 sounds more bad@ss imho.. The plexi sounded more Marshall and even more in the modded Marshall vain, when gained up. I like both for different reasons though.

The 5050 is probably much flatter and therefore may give a better result for a lot of people.

He recently got the Fryette 2/50/2 and 2/90/2 amps, too, but he's using the 5050. Guess he likes it.

It's interesting that Steve is running his SYN-2s right on top of each other. I have a 1/2 space gap between mine. They run quite hot. Mine have functioned perfectly, and I assume that Steve's have too, so it probably doesn't matter. So, it must be: Hot = Rock.

Or...

Has both a relationship with vendor + a fantastic guitar tech at his disposal. Things us mere mortals can only aspire to.

FWIW, I have a 2 space rack fan on the back rails blowing air over my Syn2’s.

Have you guys messed around much with the cathode switch and noticed a difference? I haven't touched mine and I have a few modules

HBE module/SYN-1 into H9 into fx return of a PRS MT15 powering a Barefaced 1x12, man that sounds so good!
Can't wait to get a proper power amp and another Barefaced cab for stereo.

For those of you that own the OS module, can you get a lead tone like Mayer gets from his Dumble here?

Ive never heard his tone come close to being this distinct since, theres these odd overtones that shine through even when hes playing through the envelope filter (he uses slight overdrive for that section too)

All the OS demos ive seen sound really boring compared to what John is getting from his gear here.

Are we sure that's the Dumble? That tone is pretty close to many of the Two Rocks too... I know they're similar amps but that tone is a bit more polished than I thought the Mayer Dumble usually was...

He used all the amps at the same time, so there's definitely Dumble going on, but the OS module is based on a totally different Dumble model.

Interested in using the Mesa Boogie California Tweed's effect return for Synergy use. Amp has a 40 watt /4 x 6V6 tube power section. Also has variable power settings (30w, 20w, 10w etc.)

I like 6V6s in general. Wondering if it would be a good match for the Synergy.

Any thoughts?
