What do you guys prefer? My Valve Jr. is modded to mimic the input path of a Marshall, so I'm looking for something to give me a Mullard-esque driven EL34 sound obviously. I'm currently running as short plate GE 12AX7 for the preamp, and it's sitting on top of a couple of Celestion G12T-75 speakers in a 2x12 open back. I've had great results with JJ's in my JCM 800, so I'm inclined to try one in my Valve Jr, but I can't stop reading great reviews on the TAD EL84-STR. Opinions?

Just tried some TAD EL84s in my SD18...sounded flat and killed some of the best tone IMO. Put the JJs back in and got my tone back.
    I cannot recommend them.

So the idea is that the JJs are the winner, huh? I run JJs in my Marshall and they cook, but my buddy is hooked on these TADs. I might just pick up the JJ and whip it in there.

    well,
if you don't have some tweaks and a hammond 125DSE (or similar), then tubes are just splitting hairs.

Well Buddas are dark voiced amps....the JJs really help since they seem to bring out the expected EL84 shimmer...the TADs might be fine in your amp.

I had a quad of TADs in my VHT Super 30 I think they sound good very nice low but I just recently put back in a set of JJ EL84 and now I think I do prefer the JJ tubes, both brands have a nice tight low end but the JJ tubes have a nice thick midrange punch and warmer top end where the TADS are kind of lacking in the mids and has a brighter top end.

Tweaks like the whole input path being replaced? :huh So because I don't have a new OT the output tube isn't gonna matter? C'mon now. My buddy tossed a TAD in for me and it was night and day, I was just wondering if the JJ is more preferred.
