My #1 for about 20 years was an American Standard Strat (still have it). Long story short, within the last 10 years or so other guitars have come and go, one of which is a '52 Hot Rod Tele which is now my #1. It is an awesome instrument. The skinny neck on my Am Std Strat became somewhat annoying once I got used to the fat neck on the Tele. The build quality and overall awesomeness of the Tele coupled with my  of Strats has me gassing over the '62 HR, especially the white/mint setup. I really don't need another guitar right now, but I have cash sitting in my Paypal account which I had forgot about.

Anyway, please tell me how much the '62 Hot Rod Strat sucks so I don't do something I shouldn't do! :worried

Talking of square, that's what the neck shape on the one I had felt like. Hated it.

Purchased one when they hit the market and felt it was a decent guitar. However, I didn't care for the pickups as they sounded a little flat to me, and the fat neck with medium jumbo frets was a little too much too deal with...so I ended up selling mine. I liked the '65AVRI much better. However, you may feel differently ;).

Finish too thin and neck too huge.

Had one and happily sold it. And have huge hands.

The necks are like baseball bats. You want to play baseball or do you want to play guitar :dunno

I can't talk you out of it , I love mine. The neck is the best thing about it.
    I like bigger necks like on older R7 , R8 Les Paul's.
Mine is nice and light. There are better pickups out there but the stock ones sound pretty good for vintage strat tones.
I'm a big fan of the older hot rods...I have the 52 tele and 57 strat as well .

I've go that exact one - white/mint from the first year. I like big necks, but this one isn't as big as a PRS wide/fat, for instance. Very comfortable...

Thanks for the replies. Anyone tried both the Tele and Strat? Just wondering how they compare, since I already have the Tele. The neck on that is bigger than any other I had tried until then, but now I'm used to it and love it.

Pass. You "don't need it", and the fact that you didn't already get it means that it is most likely GAS that will just be flipped later anyway.... General rule for me is that if I have to ask if I should get it, the answer is no.

Hey, anything to avoid learning how to play the guitar better or learn more about music.

    Go for it.

Yes, I own both. The Strat's neck is thicker but relatively similar in shape, if you like the Tele you will like the Strat. By the way, the '62 Hot Rod maybe one of the best production Strats ever made. Now go buy it already!

LOL - don't worry about me. I have plenty of time to practice, get better on guitar, AND gas over gear. :aok

Well, if you've already learned everything--go ahead. You can never have too many guitars that sound alike and look pretty much the same.

All the other kids are going to make fun of you. Don't do it.

Seriously, they are really well built guitars. Even the stock pickups are decent when you get them fine tuned.

I wish someone had of talked me out of selling my 62 hot rod strat. It was the only strat that I ever played that I liked.

Perhaps your hands aren't as big as you think. I have no issues with the neck and I have smaller hands. Great guitar! Go get it before it's gone.
