My delay effect doesn't have a feature to select dotted eighth delay after tapping in quarter note tempos.

Is there a technique or a way to tap in a dotted 8th delay?

Instead of quarter notes tap this:

    1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

Another way of thinking about it is in groups of threes. If you're in 4/4, count quickly in groups of 3's and tap on the 1:

    123123123123

Yup, as said above, if your playing a 4/4, hit on the 1 and the 4. Never had this issue, but tried it for kicks a few months back, pretty close. Not perfect, but permissible.

If you are in 1/4 note mode, this is the way to do it, and it does take some practice for it to feel comfortable.

This only sounds right if you are in 1/16th note mode.
