Taylors unbalanced in weight?

I have two Taylors I love (814CE and 655 CE), but when I put straps on them to play while standing up, they don't remain balanced around my neck. They both tip immediately down, the headstock pointing towards the floor. I have to exert some pressure at all times to keep them balanced in playing position.

Is this normal? Is there something I can do about this? I'm using the factory installed pins and it doesn't matter which strap I use.

Hi Rogbar, Welcome to the Forum!

I've never heard about Taylors being unbalanced with a strap. I have a couple but don't play standing up anymore but when I did I never noticed an issue.

You've tried multiple straps and it's done it on all of them? Has the strap knob been moved on your guitars?

I've heard that different tuners can add weight to the headstock but not so excessively that it causes a major unbalance.

Have you tried a new neck?

anyway, look into lighter keys, maybe vintage-style open-gear keys. a little weight makes a big difference out at the end of the neck, since it's a big ol' lever.

You could also try a strap with a rough inner surface, like a leather strap, rough side to shoulder. The friction of the strap will help keep the guitar where you want it.

Yes, try a different strap. In my experience of gigging my previous 314ce and now 814ce Taylors are no more awkward to play standing up than any other acoustic.

The neck joints are not dovetail...perhaps more neck joint weight?
