TC Electronics G-System....thoughts???

Hey everyone.
I've been considering pulling the trigger on a TC Electronics G-System. It looks like it would be great setup (At least for me and what I would use it for). But it's fairly expensive obviously. I've been stalking the TC forums and I hear the feedback from there...which gives me some viewpoints, but I was wanting to get some feedback through other sources as well. Anyone here had any experience with the G-System? If so, what's your opinions?
Thanks everyone. :)

I think it's a beautifully-designed piece of gear which simplifies your setup and which could accommodate expansion if that's what you wanted. Mark Potter, the guitarist for Elbow, uses one live.

As for the cost - it's certainly not cheap, but when you consider all the quality effects that are thrown in (let's face it, TC don't make rubbish) and how much you'd pay for all of them, along with a switcher, a Midi controller and all the other things it contains, then it puts things into perspective.

What style do you play?

I use one. Great unit designed for real world pro usage. Really the only thing that does the specific combination of studio quality effects, amp switching and tons of routing/loop/insert options. And no wall-wart (a pet peeve of mine in so-called "pro" gear).

However, there are things that frustrate me about it, and it could do with an update. Notably the ability to move the effects chain around (especially the loops - and yeah, I know that means more D/A and quality D/A adds substantially to cost). Stereo signal path in the loops... And just more effects...

Thanks for your comments my friends. :aok
The features that both of you mention are the things that tend to make me want to go ahead and get a G system. I agree with the ability to move the effects chain around...it would be a great feature. But in my case I think it will be fine. I will be putting mostly dirt pedals in the loops and possibly a different compressor for variety, so it's not a deal breaker for me. Although most tend to use the 4CM with this unit, I wont be...because I go straight into a clean amp anyway. I have a pedaltrain Pro board that's full at the moment and I'm tired of tap dancing....lol. As far as the styles I play, I work in all areas from studio to live performances...so I try to cover a lot of styles, but I'm geared more towards Country...both old and current, jazz, classic rock, blues, western swing and bluegrass. You might say anything from George Strait to George Benson to AC/DC. lol :p Do either of you use an expression pedal with your G System? If so, do you have a preference? Right now I've been using a Line 6 EX-1 to control my M-13 unit. Would it work for the G System? My guess is that it should, but I'm not sure.

You can use just about any expression or volume pedal with the G-Sys. I have a pair of Boss FV-500 volumes (one H, one L) and they work perfectly.

Loved my G System. I wasn't working for a few months and had to to sell it. Got a Nova System just to get by. Wish i still had the G! Amazing audio quality.

There's been talk for years that there might be an updated version in the works but there's been no official word yet. If you're buying used, make sure it's not the original silver version. The original buffers/converts were really lousy which is why they did the black modified version which was a huge improvement. Since then, they've had the new modified buffers in all of the ones they've put out (Black, Red and new Silver ones)
