technical question--what is negative feedback?

what does "negative feedback" refer to in amplifier design?
is it better to have no negative feedback?

part of the preamp signal is fed back into the poweramp section and this cancels some of the lower frequencies. makes for a cleaner leaner brighter sound.

Wrong direction.

Part of the power amp is fed back into the phase inverter. It makes the amplifier behave somewhat more linearly, and it makes the transition to distortion much less gradual.
