Tele neck refin question

I have a tele V neck that I love the profile of. I hate the poly that is so thick it seems puddled between the frets.

What would be the best way to strip the fretboard and back of the neck ?
I would like to keep the front of the headstock intact.

Chemical stripper. Take care not to melt the fret marker dots.

Just any kind of chem stripper, or is there a specific brand that would be more appropriate ?

Afterwards just follow with steel wool ?
