Hey guys, I recently picked up a classic series 72' thinline RI, that I love a whole lot, but I'm having some awful feedback issues with it. The guitar really squeals at any real volume with any real amount of gain, something that I know shouldn't really be happening, especially considering the amount of people I know who play the same model guitar and don't have this issue. Is it possible the pickups are microphonic? or is there something else I should look into?

    Thanks!

It's a common problem with semi hollow body guitars,
Although this is the first time I've heard of it happening with
    the Thinline.
In fact I remember seeing Earl Slick using one with a 100 watt
    Marshall with no issues.

Tap of the pickups and see it they're making a ton of noise.
If your using high gain pedals, trying backing off the gain
    or the highs.

I love Thinlines, I'm certain someone here will have the fix.

Also try getting away from the amp when your playing.

How high are the pickups set up?

I have a Thinline Telecaster, and don't have any feedback issues with it. My guess would be that the pick ups are microphonic... Do you have the issue with both pick ups?

Yeah, issues with both pickups, they don't seem to be set particularly high either

How much gain do you use? What type of guitar did you have before? Were there problems with that guitar?

I have another 72' Tele RI, but its a Custom, and a Jazzmaster and no issues with either. Gain is an OCD at like 75% drive, so nothing too crazy.

I have a '69 MIM thinline and swapped out the pups for a Lollar 52T bridge and a Duncan Vintage Rhythm STR-1 neck and they sound amazing loud & proud! Been playing it thru a '66 Bassman head & 1 x 12" cab w/ a Celestion G12H and it howled some tasty ass feedback in a good way! Sounds like you need to have the pups re-dipped or replace them. Good luck.

I use my wife's foot waxer to re-pot pickups. Works like a charm.
