Teles: Thinline vs solid?

I have used the same 2 sets of pickups in both a mahoghany MIM Thinline and an ash solid body. I find from my experience, the wood has little to do with it. The Thinlines seem to sound a lot rounder, and lack the snap and definition, that a solid body Tele has. YMMV. What do you think?

depends on the pups too!

I find a big difference between a custom, an ash, a maple and a pine thinline as well.

I love the tone on pine and ash

maybe the pups your swapping lack articulation and definition

I think the neck has more influence on the tone & snap than the body.

Yup - the neck and pickups are bigger factors than the body; I've owned 4 solid teles and 2 thinlines. Love the thinline look, but in my experience, they don't sound significantly different to solids per se.

I find thinlines to sound very nice and airy played clean, but I miss the solid "thunk" or whatever of a solid body. I think I'm done with hollow or semi-hollow guitars.
