Tell me about the clean channel on a Shiva.

I was playing a friend's EL34 Shiva today and I am really digging on the clean channel. The rest of the amp is nice as well, but running some dirt boxes into the front of the clean channel was really doing it. What is this channel based on? Is there any amps out there that are basically the Shiva clean channel with a master volume?

I own the EL34 Shiva (112 combo),
and see the cleans as basically one part BF Fender,
and one part Marshall Plexi.

Lotsa headroom, and syrupy shimmer...which I'll take all day
every day.

Cant answer your last question.

Hmmm... I wonder if something like a tweed bassman in a head would get close?

A bassman will smoke the Shiva's clean channel........but I guess I never really liked the shiva clean..... far too clean and stiff.
Comparing a blackface Bassman head next to it was an eye and ear opener.....
So much more going on with the bassman............If only the bassman had that lush shiva reverb....mmmmmm

I had a silverface AB165 a few years ago, but I guess I have never spent any time with a blackface. I guess I will have to find one and give it a whirl. Is there anything in that vein that has a 16 ohm output? It would be cool to be able to use cabs I already have.

I had the 6L6 Shiva head and loved the clean channel. It's not a crisp clean with lots of sparkle but more of a darker, rich tone with prominent low mids. And it takes pedals really well. The Bassman reference is actually pretty close- the Shiva shared a lot of tonal ground with my '65 BF Bassman. And both have tons of headroom. I used a clean boost if I wanted any break up.

Your description of the Shiva cleans is a great one. I think it is that low mids emphasis that I was really liking.

Excellent rundown ... exactly why it didn't work for moi ...
Luved the ton's of headroom part ... just that it wasn't my preferred clean tone EQ curve ...

+1. I OWN the EL34 Shiva and have tried a 6L6 version. I prefer the cleans on the EL34 model much more. More "glassy" to me.

It is a fantastic amp IMHO.

I owned an El34 Shiva and thought the amp was over compressed. It was far too forgiving and unresponsive for my taste.
