Mike (Blue Strat) at KCA is top notch as are his tubes. I've bought a bunch from him and will buy more in the future, I am sure (perhaps including some Tesla EL34s!).

How would you compare them to JJ's, clean and OD?

tesla el34 are quite similar to the Mullard- slightly earlier breakup and a little more crisp highs than the Mullard.

I like JJ's but the tesla are a step up in tone. The JJ-KT77 actally sounds more in line with NOS tubes than the EL34 or EL34L.

The JJ-KT77 sounds great in late 70's MV Marshalls- gives them a more solid low end but has more crisp highs than the JJ-EL34L.

Tesla EL34 and ECC83, E83CC, ECC803s rule! The Tesla El84 is great too!

The Tesla tubes are more open sounding than any new production tubes. New production preamp tubes are more compressed than their NOS counterparts- even the Tung-Sol reissue 12ax7 is not quite up to the quality of a Tesla preamp tube- E83CC, etc.

Yeah, a customer of mine bought some NOS Tesla E83CCs and some Tung Sol Reissue 12AX7s. After hearing both, he wanted to exchange the Tung Sols for credit toward more Tesla E83CCs.

Have any of you guys ever compared a Mullard CV4004 to the Tesla E83CC?

They're similar, but the CV4004 is irreplaceable for some of it's followers.

On the other hand, the Tesla has WAY lower microphonics than the 4004.

I love the CV4004 Mullard and haven't found anything that sounds as good in mt Carr Hammerhead. The problem is that I am down to my last one and am having problems finding them! How do the Bimar CV4004 and the Tesla E83CC stack up?

They're both great tubes, but I won't tell you that you'll love them as much as the Mullards. You might though.:AOK

I've got to get me some more of those Tesla ECC83's. I've got one I got from BZT that he got from Blue Strat. I like that Tube better than my very Exspensive 50's Mullards.

I need to get me an order together.

Actually, that's Tesla E83CC (I think). Great tubes! They've been a major success. Hurry though, I'm down to about 30 tubes remaining from 600. Gotta remember to hoard some for myself too.;)

The microphonics in a CV4004 is more of an issue in high gain amps though, correct? (i.e. not as much of an issue with Fender amps?)

What are the general differences between the Brimar and Tesla 12AX7's?
