We all know about the cheap amps out there, and some of them do certain things very well. In your experiences, what does each one do the best?

Example: My Orange Micro Terror is the best cheap high gain amp I've ever heard. (Not true I've never even played one, just an example)

Cheap is up to the discretion of each poster, but it might be helpful if you list the price.

The Tiny Terror is the perfect plug and play practice amplifier for rock. It has simple controls and features, but works great with adjustments to tone and volume on the guitar. The bedroom sound is good and inspiring to play, but it has enough wattage to hold it's own in a full rock band. It has a smooth overdrive that ranges from clean to fuzzy, and a tone control that is usable in any position. 300 on the used market, and it can't be best at what it does.

The Genz Benz Black Pearl wasn't too cheap when it came out, but are about $600 for the 1x12 combo on the used market now. I think that amp is one of the absolute best amps for clean to slightly gritty in the under $1500 category....And it's better than some $2000 amps IMO.

Ignore the sloppy lead in the middle.

Everything is the Black Pearl... Lead melody was using a Tubescreamer and sloppy lead was a Menatone Blue collar OD.

I love what Jet City is doing by making something of such high quality for the price. I think the company's entire plan is to make great high gain amps that are affordable. If I played high gain I would definitely be considering one!

Pro Jr. is the best cheap amp for mid-gain, alt-country stuff.

One of the best amps, at any price, actually. Records like it's ten feet tall.

For heavier Marshall tones, I don't see the DSL15H getting beat for the money at under $600.
Sounds great even at half power with 6V6's for writing and recording at home.

The peavey Classic 30 is the best cheap amp that sounds better, is more versatile, takes pedals better, and is lighter than a ton of amps 4x its price.

    Used Peavey comes to mind...
    80s-early 90s Bandit:
the best cheap amp for being reliable, solid as a tank and pretty much user serviceable. These also sell for about $1-2 a watt, which makes them perhaps the bang-for-the-buck amp of all time.
    Transtube Bandit:
More versatile/toneful than the 80s version, but a touch less durable. Still a bargain at $1-2 a watt.

    Bravo:
The best cheap tube amp for Marshall-y medium to high gain tones and Vox/Fender hybrid clean tones. Separate channel EQs makes it nicely plug and play. You can pick these up for the price of a new, giggable SS modeling amp.

    VTM 60/120:
Best loud, modded Marshall 2204/3 tube head for under $300.

    Marshall DSL50:
Cheapest Marshall that runs the gamut of Marshall tones at club and home-friendly volumes. It's crazy what these do for $500.

The Bugera V55Head is the best cheap amp for tons of clean headroom with a 4x12 even with an insanely loud drummer.
