1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

Today's good news: My Thorpy Veteran has shipped.

The bad: Apparently it's coming from Canada via dog sled. (Or Canada Post. Apparently not much difference.) Estimated delivery date 2/21.

Yeah as @lakesider already pointed out these dedicated studio desks are $$$$. The Output one was the first one for less than $1K that I thought was worth looking at and would be a big enough improvement from my cobbled together setup.

I sort of IKEA-hacked a desk that works pretty well.

I had a couple of heavy plywood shelves that had been installed in the corner of a closet. I'd hung onto them for years without any idea how to reuse them. Finally I decided to build a deep desk with a V in the center. This allows me to keep my keyboard and other stuff on the desk but pushed out of my way.

It took a while to find a set of legs that could handle the weight. I got some bar counter risers from IKEA for the "bridge." I have my monitors and screens on the top level, by B monitors and keyboard on the main level, and my computer keyboard mounted on a sliding tray below.

It has never been that clean again. Here's my "sidecar." Mics and cables in the little cabinet.

When I go to upgrade my desk, the Output will be what I get.

I'm certainly covetous of the Output desk. My problem is I'd be tempted to put it in my living room. You know, up my Mid-Mod Scandinavian design cred.

I played keys in my first band so the first songs I learned were Freebird and Takin' it to the Streets.
First guitar song? Probably was Bell Bottom Blues. I think. Certainly was the first song I played in a band.

Second bit of good news for the day... look what landed:

Quick plug-in with the AC10 at low volume (folks are actually still working here in the office... silly gits!) sounded fantastic. The acoustic modeling is definitely a big step up from the Taylor and Line 6 stuff. Very realistic. No discernable piezo quack, at least at low volumes. I hit the Tele pup briefly with a Pettyjohn Chime. It looks like it will rough up pretty righteously with a good OD or a little gain on an amp. :aok

More experimenting to come tonight! :D

Yep. It was a groundbreaking give away for helping to get this project off the ground:

First song? "Louie Louie" played on the bottom two strings. First solo was "My Back Pages" by The Byrds.

First song on the guitar? Here Comes Mr. Bill's Dog. Second was probably Purple Haze (sans solo).

Anyone else here going to AmericanaFest in Nashville this year? I just submitted to get a slot - it's a longshot I know but can't win if you don't play.

It would’ve been nice for him to be playing the amp more than talking about its backstory, but the little bit at the beginning sounds pretty good.
