Raise the bridge pup a few turns and lower the neck a few. If the neck loses some output, raise the individual poles.

How are the pots? Set amp up for the neck pickup and roll off the tone on the bridge to compensate?

Could also be you’re just not a HB LP guy. They do exist.

I struggled with the neck pickup on an LP for a long time. 50’s wiring fixed a lot of it. I never jived with any (modern) Gibson bucker besides the 498t for hard rock stuff. I have a Lollar Low Wind Imperial in the neck and regular Imperial in the bridge of my R8. Pure secks.

I have Duncan 59’s in my Classic. I like them a lot too. As much as I liked the Fralin Pure PAFs I had it in before, I put those in my ES-333. It was a good swap because the Fralins are perfect in that ES.

Just messed with pickup height as Mike suggested ( I had them set the same as my SG) and the LP definitely has a TON more bass and is way more sensitive to height than my SG's. LOL this is probably old news to LP guys...

What pots are in it? The first thing I did when I got my '03 R6 was to replace the pots. Then follow erksin's advice. And if that doesn't help, start shopping for pickups.

    Checking pots now.

It has the PCB that everyone hates. Can't see the values, I'd have to pull it apart to see them. If I go that far I might as well swap out pickups.

I'll stick with messing around with the pickup height, any next steps at this point looks to be more labor/time intensive.

    Thanks for the advice guys!

An old thread about Ronson’s Marshall 200 Pig amp got necrobumped in the amps forum and it reminded me that I’m glad fftt no longer posts in that forum. Don’t know if he went deaf from playing 200 watt amps home or got banned for trolling every modern amp thread about amp build quality, but I’m glad he no longer posts.

I find them both great pickups! Especially '57 and '57+ in SG. Have you ever had an LP you really like? I easily bond with most SGs (I used to have a very nice '61RI with '57s) and it's hard for me to find a nice LP, especially from Gibson.

I have a really light '60's Tribute GT with P90's that I love, but it obviously sounds WAY different than the Classic.

Some of my favorite players ever played LP's. Never played one I liked :dunno

Had an SG that if not for not liking how it hung on the strap would have been a keeper.

Really disappointed with the pots in the Novo T. One of the things I loved right off the bat with the J was how immediately useable both pots were. Fantastic sweeps.

On the new T I’d say about 1/3+ of the volume shelves off from 10 to 8.5, and I can barely hear any change in tone from 10 to 3, then it just shelves to dark from 2 to 1. Bummer.

But at least that can be changed.

Apart from that it’s brilliant. Lollartrons were a bit brighter than I expected.

And the guitar smells fantastic. Ha.

I felt that way till @Drewski did the maple flame mod on mine and made the neck pickup (only) 50s wiring. It’s a different guitar now.

If Binnington doesn’t get the Conn Smythe I’ll eat my dinner.

One more oddball thing that really make neck pickups usable to me... Herco Holy Grail picks. The attack helped a lot with cutting. I can thank @erksin and Howard for that tip.
