Yes, each speaker is 8 ohms.

Your story reminds me of a friend at work. We were talking about music gear, and he used to play keyboards. He mentioned that he built a homemade speaker cabinet that also served as his keyboard stand, and that he had installed an old Fender amp in the homemade cabinet.

I asked if he wanted to sell the amp/cab and he said yes. The amp ended up being a 1959 Fender twin. Unfortunately the original tweed cabinet and Jensen speakers were long gone, but I restored the amp as best as I could.

And your serial number 160073 is one of the earliest examples I have seen. Probably from early 1961.

    Thanks tree.

Yes, it's an early one. No reverb, only trem. Case was tweed. This site says they shipped 163 of them in 1959 and 47 in 1960. Although I think those may be manufacturing dates as Gibson says they were sold in 60 and 61.

Can you share a picture of it? Would be interested in what it looks like with your setup.

    I agree. I have seen a couple of 1960s and several 1961s.

Info only, the Line 6 Helix samples it very well provided that you're using pro line speakers. Nice for those like me who are not into warehousing amplifiers but want a lot of variety quickly.

I've been playing mine more and more lately. With various guitars and I have to be honest, with the bass dimed for the overdriven sound and the volume, it's seriously a killer tone. My partscaster, my '70LP deluxe, and my '60 345 all absolutely sing in that setting. My ears can only take so much.

MY GA-79 in it's crude homemade cabinet. It may not be pretty but it plays great.

Isn't that a stereo dual amp version of the Trace Elliot Velocette?

The Gibson Goldtone GA30RVS does not have stereo inputs, only stereo outputs and stereo effects loop.

I just checked the date codes on the old caps I had replaced- all were 1960, ranging from the 11th to 34th week. I have one new P10Q speaker coming next week. I'll put it in and compare that channel with the other that has a Pyle Driver.

My GA-79RVT arrived this week. Blown away by how great this amp sounds. The bass pot threw me for a loop for awhile.

I wondered who nabbed that one. Great score.

Yes, the bass control can make you think the amp is less gainey than it is if you don't crank it. It is not intuitive to set the bass control on 10 when overdriving an amp!

Can you send me the serial number for a database I am building on these models? Thanks!
