For the Dirty Southerners, it's been awhile since I've been to Atlanta, so I need to schedule a trip.

What are the best stores (for buying and/or consignment)?

Who are the best repairmen for amps and guitars?

    Who are the best builders?

And why in the world can't a city that large support at least one annual guitar show?:jo

Boutique Guitar Exchange on Ponce de Leon/downtown area has some sweet gear. Nice guys too. www.boutiqueguitarexchange.com

Atlanta Discount Music in Chamblee is smaller shop but always has some cool gear. www.atlantadiscountmusic.com

Sorry cant recommend any repair/builders but Im sure someone will chime in.

There used to be a GuitarShow here but I think they stopped having it in late 90s?

Midtown Music or Atlanta Discount Music. For a tech I use Tom Dodson, he's between Griffin and Jackson, one of the best I've come across in my 40+ years into guitars.

I believe MidTown is in the process of closing the biz.:( Had a big sale a couple of weekends ago. I think he is operating on a reduced schedule. You may want to call to confirm this info.

For guitar repairs the guitar store in the same strip mall as the Guitar Center near Gwinett Place mall does great work.

One of the guys there left and started:
    http://www.atlantaguitarworks.com/

    Tube amp repair:
    http://www.mindspring.com/~atlantatubeamp/

We (Atlanta) also have our own boutique tube amp manufacturer, and they do amp repairs as well - Andrews Amps:
    http://www.andrewsamplab.com/

    Luthiers:

Kent Everett makes incredible, boutique, handmade acoustics!

Not too far out of town and comes highly recommended:

    :(:(:(

So sad. Last time I was there (about a year ago), all the owner could talk about was how badly eBay was killing him. I can't imagine the economy has helped him any. :(

I bought this fantastic 71/72 Super Reverb (non-master) there in '03 for $700. Fantastic amp. Still sitting next to me as I type.

Atlanta Discount all the way! I'll be there Saturday.

A real shame to hear about Midtown. I've had some issues with one guy's attitude there in the past, but it was still a great guitar store, and we need all of those we can get! :^/

    Wow that sucks about Midtown.

Bakos is the place for vintage amp repair.

Atlanta Boutique Guitar exchange is the place to go if you want to empty your bank account.

-Atlanta Discount Music for sure. Good, knowledgeable folks that have been around for a long time. It's where Goodsell Amps really got launched
-Atlanta Music Brokers: good selection, good guys
-Boutique Guitar Exchange: Lots of eye candy.
-Midtown Music: Hate to hear if it's true. Great selection of boutique amps.

It's been a while since I've been to Atlanta, but I also schedule in a trip to Maple Street Music. Nice guys and they carry some classical guitars you won't find in most places. Also have some nice handmade acoustics and electrics.

Be sure to stop by Botique and see if Ede is in there. He is one of the greatest guitar players I've ever heard. The GC off 85 can also have some decent used gear. Good luck getting him to show up, but Atlanta Vintage Guitars has good nice gear sometimes too.
Maple street is an amazing store for acoustics.

+1 on Kerry and Jason (jaybird as my friend calls him). Good people.

Atlanta Discount is where I hang out. Those guys have been so nice to me and my family over the years.

Andrews Amp Lab for repairs and fine amps. Goodsell for great amps, which you will see at Discount.
