...bothers me. Call me old, but I like to see gear on stage. Saw Alice In Chains last night and I got to view those stupid faux 4x12 type boxes with lights where speakers would go. I realize they Iso cab or have cabs off stage or whatever but if I’m viewing faux 4x12 with lights inside, sorry, it looks generic. If it’s not a guitar centric band, fine, but this band is known for signature guitar tones and amps.

My band has big scrims. Mostly I hate them, but they serve the purpose of telling the unfamiliar who we are at least. I also get it if the band uses modelers and is trying to save on freight cost. None of these seem to be the case in the show last night.

Edit: by “clean”, I mean void of any amps whatsoever.

You want to see the gear on stage...what if it’s just a rack with a couple of Fractals in it? Is that sufficient for you?

One thing I don't like is cords and cables running helter skelter all over the stage. Management please.

At large concerts, I don't care. If a band is creative with the extra space, that's cool.

For small bands, a clean stage looks better than a 1x12 on a stand behind the guitarist.

I addressed that at the end of my post. If you model, do something creative with the open space.

That’s the point of the thread. I’d rather see gear on the stage if you’re using it. Big faux 4x12 light boxes that barely flash in time with the music is cheesy. AIC is one of my favorite bands. I’m not bashing them. I just don’t like the generic clean stage look. It’s as boring as many new popular uninteresting bands that all sound the same.

If you've got a clean stage, you can't do THIS:

One man's cheesy is another's creative.

I can see both sides of it. Amps on stage in any capacity has been done. To death.

Every time give me amps and guitar cables strewn across the stage. Hate that clean (sterile) look.

Fair enough. I doubt they feel those light boxes are creative though. Seems more like a filler idea since the gear is back stage.

I have no clue. I can't begin to guess what Cantrell thinks is creative. Choices are made...

Some thought/design went into this. This isn't just an afterthought reaction to a guitar player's rig.

Give me a clean stage where I can move around any day. Less to set up/tear down, more time to play.

Pretty sure that's the first time I've ever heard anyone make that claim.

Maybe worry about if the band sounds good and puts on a professional show, rather than if you can see an amp on the stage.

Yeah, that seemed pretty cool to me. :dunno I'm a gear head, but I don't really need to see what someone else has going to enjoy.
