In remembrance of Buddy Holly, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Ritchie Valens.

The number of musicians who emerged from Lubbock and Beaumont, Texas is impressive for a couple of podunk college towns. Buddy and Bopper's legacy has everything to do with it.

I was just thinking of this a bit ago.
back in 2011, we visited the Surf Ball room where they played their last gig, it's kind of a fun time warp to visit, they have lots of memorabilia there too...
they do look so young:

I grew up nearby Clear Lake, IA where the Surf Ballroom is. Definitely worth a visit for the history as well as for some good concerts I have seen there.

-Santana in August 1974
-Dicky Betts circa 2008
-B.B. King circa 2010
-Beach Boys circa 2014

i know when we were there, there was a sign that Kevin Costner's band would be playing in the week or so after.....can imagine the events going on now are certainly hurting the ballroom.....
