I have one one my pedal board.
I want to leave it at home and get something more readily available, replaceable and less expensive.

What is out now that would be a good replacement?

    Thanks!

I just barely ordered an FA-1 Clone built by AnalogMan. He builds everything exactly to spec in a small hammond style enclosure with true bypass. $235, just order a Sunface with Sundial and put in the notes that you want an FA-1 instead. I think he has one gold colored one left.

Of course that's still pretty expensive, so you might consider an RC Booster instead.

Remco from Hot Wire Audio makes a great FA-1 Ampclone. It's my go-to clean boost. No other clean boost I've owned/tried has come close. He's in Holland, not sure what the cost would be with the current exchange would be. Can't say enough good things about the pedal.

+ 1. A true thing of beauty. That box pushes my Twin into pure tonal nirvana.

The Hot Wire one is great, we worked together on parts and I got my boards from him. It's a 100% clone but we are all out for now. We had made a small batch of ten in various colors, also 100% clones with original chips and FETs.

I got a real FA-1 for The Edge about 2 years ago.

The Hot Wire Audio in the pic above is an early one. This is what the latest version looks like:

What does Egde use it for? To balance volume difference between single coil and humbucker guitars?

I know he likes the boost that comes out of the Korg SDD 3000 delay ( as do I !) ....does this pedal do something similar to the Korg ?( even with delay in bypass it juices up amp real nice )

Dallas Schoo, his tech, told me he uses it to hit his amps hard to overdrive them. They do have a LOT of volume. I have one on my board after my dirt pedals and I kick it on as sort of a dirty boost when I need a little more volume.

I had one. Found it in a used shop for 60 bucks. I sold it for 220$ on Ebay though. Im an Edge fanatic but boys, come on, it's just a clean boost. Say what you want but you are better off with a Danelectro Fish and Chips or Sniper modded GE-7. Save your dough and get something that performs the same functions and more for the same price. For that matter I would go with a Catalinbread Varioboost. Now thats a clean boost.

The U2 tribute bands generally give a nice shout-out to the DOD Bi-Fet (FX-10), as well. That's a solid little pedal that flies under the radar.

For that you'd want a Psionic Audio Triad preamp pedal, which is a clone of the SDD-3000's preamp boost (and much more!).

SSSSSHHHH! let's keep that one to ourselves, OK!
The FX-10 has beat thousands of $ in boosters off my pedalboard over the years for when I need exactly the tone I already am hearing, just louder.

I had an FX-10. Same idea I guess. I would also recommend something like that over the FA-1. It really is just the same but cheaper.

I had the second one Remco ever made. I sold it and wish I still had it. I just bought a Boost Switch on ebay three weeks ago and I like it just as much. You might want to check it out.
