1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

I’m not sure an award for popular music is necessarily representative of the public being interested in the sounds of actual instruments.

If she was just playing an instrumental song not sure she’s gonna garner a big following or any Grammys. Not commenting on her musicianship as I don’t know who HER is. I’m commenting on what the public likes which is pop music that is not focused on instruments.

Is there an award for tone? I might have missed that one.

What plastic guitar? I've owned a few that might be considered "plastic"...
    Parker and Steinberger composites
Ovation Lyracord some with CF tops
    CA and McPherson CF acoustics
    Renaissance Acrylic body guitar

All of them sounded good in their own way, except the CF topped Ovation which was just strident.

Does this mean a Lucite Strat doesn't sound different from an Ash Strat?

    hmmm.
seems like there may be another kind of reward for “tone” not found on any shelf anywhere.

That’s my point, public doesn’t care about many of those features when it comes to pop music. So she could play a plastic guitar, a toy guitar, a kazoo for that matter and the public wouldn’t care as long as the song hit all the pop wickets.

However, if she doesn’t hit the pop wickets, then she could be a fantastic musician and still not be popular.

i like good tone on songs as much as the next guy/gal, but songwriting has always been first in the hierarchy of what pleases me. i can forgive what to me is bad tone for a cool tune. Crazy Train comes to mind.

    ok! that's cool.

but, who gives a hoot about this so-called next guy/girl's opinion (eg, probably not me), and why did you quote me?

She's very good live. I have seen her. She can sing very well, writes great songs, and plays tastily but not over the top. Jazzy inversions like most modern R&B/soul singers with some jazz background. I don't care if she has a lucite strat but that also comes across as not as weird since it's not a new concept. The lego strat is weirder for sure but a lucite strat could still have quality wiring and pickups and sound great, wood or not

Lucite strat reminds of the Dan Armstrong’s favored by Keef, Wayne Kramer and Jo Jo Gunne for slide...

Why does a plastic guitar sounding good mean "tone wood" is a ******** concept?
