I sent one of my R0's to RS Guitarworks for a top refin.
I wasn't in love with the stock iced tea finsh and have a gold top fetish.
My first LP was a '71 gold top.
Plus,it has a dark back and one of my fav color combo's for a LP is a gold top with a dark back.
For those who wonder why not just get a gold top historic.
Well, there are no R0's available with a gold top/dark back finish.
I prefer the R0 necks plus, this one is a keeper so,I wanted to make it how I wanted.
Here are some in progress photos.

    How it arrived.

That makes baby Jesus cry. :(

Seriously, I like goldtops, but that understated burst was fine looking.

I like both finishes a lot...that would be a tough decision for me. However, as you said, she's a keeper so she might as well look just like you want her to. I'm sure it'll look killer when its finished. :AOK

    Keep us updated!

I also have a "thing" for gold tops. Absolutely love them. It is quite liberating to just have things made the way you like them and forget the idea of originality. I mod my guitars to the way I like them.

If you don't mind me asking what is the price of a refin?

And would they be able to do Burst Gretsch hollow bodies?

I prefer the burst, but hey, it's not my guitar! and the gold top looks really well done. So long as you like the color, that's all that matters.

That's gonna look great IMO. Heck with the Sunburst finish. I'd rather have a Goldtop!

I was trying to get a rough estimate from someone (not RS) about what it'd cost to refinish my '82 Standard as a Goldtop, but I could never get a straight answer out of the guy! Pissed me off. I didn't ask him to lock into a price, I wanted a ballpark figure!

Looks like it'd be about $900 from RS.

That's worth considering, even if it's way more than I paid for it new. RS has a pretty good reputation for their finish work, and I can't exactly pay for new Pauls these days.

Yours should come out great. You have to put up more pictures as the thing progresses.

A top only refin is way less than $900.

Congrats Sean. I remember your thread on LPF when you first mentioned it. Glad to see you followed your heart on this one.

    Thanks.
Quite a few LPF brothers think I'm crazy and have ruined it.:worried
    Not to me though.
I much prefer the gold to the stock finish.

I'm sure there's a law somewhere against saying something bad about a goldtop lester.

I love a burst but when it comes to COOL, GT's rule.

This will be a super-cool GT! And really, that other darker burst RO you have is so freakin killer, that this one just paled next to it (just my opinion). Kudos for getting it done the way you want it! Can't wait to see it finished up!

That plain top looked pretty killer IMO.

But, sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.:D

The only Goldtop RO has it's appeal too.:AOK
